Biography

Gord Mowat - bass

The Dust Poets bass chair has always been held by "a strong, silent type". He has to be, because he doesn't get a mic.

As a 16 year-old sk8er boi from north end Winnipeg who had already been shaving for years, he began his music career playing the 'Peg's booze-soaked Blues 'n' Bingo Burlesque circuit. He bought his way out of high school, and then turned down a lucrative tennis scholarship to study jazz at McGill in Montreal. He has performed and recorded with countless Winnipeg folkies, and with some of Toronto's finest young jazz players.

Currently a denizen of east Toronto, Gord honed his skills in the Jazz Studies program at Humber College. Apart from being a busy freelance bassist, he manages an independent psychology clinic based in his apartment, and works Sundays as a Texas Hold'em dealer at Ontario's Mohawk Casino.
